In July,
Beware of chinch bugs
To do
- Check for possible presence of chinch bugs.
- Mow the lawn only when necessary.
- Irrigate the lawn (as needed).
1. Check for possible presence of cereal bugs
This helps to limit damage and intervene at the right time.
Expert advice:
- If you notice that your lawn has yellow spots, you can easily check if it is chinch bugs or drought by watering your lawn. If your municipality allows it, water for an hour, either in the morning or in the evening, twice a week. Watering allows fresh water to see if the grass is turning green again.
- If the lawn turns green with watering, it means that it was just dry. If, however, the yellow patches continue to grow after watering your lawn, it means that you have chinch bugs.
Au besoin:
1. Irrigate your lawn
This helps the lawn stay healthy during a prolonged drought.
Expert advice
- Make sure to always respect the regulations of your municipality.
- Water the lawn only if it receives less than 1 inch of water in a week.
- Water early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce evaporation.
- Adjust according to the weather; if rain is forecast, you can delay or skip watering.
- Water only once a week and for 1 hour.
As needed
2. Mow the lawn
Avoid damaging the lawn during drought.
Expert advice
- For best results, it is best to avoid mowing the lawn too often in July, as the high temperatures (30 degrees Celsius felt and above) could damage it further.
- It is recommended to cut the lawn as long as possible (at least 3 1/2 inches).
Look out!
Chich bugs
To eliminate chinch bugs, apply Safer's insecticide. You can also use a homemade insecticide (dilute 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap in 4 cups of water). Apply the insecticide well to the yellow patches and 5-6 feet around the patches. There should be no rain or watering for 24 hours after the insect treatment.
