In September,

Prepare your lawn for winter by strengthening its roots and improving its resistance

To do

  1. Apply Neosol fertilizer
  2. Treating weeds
  3. Repair and densify the lawn
  4. Aerate the ground
  5. Monitoring and treating cereal bugs

1. Apply Neosol fertilizer

Improve your lawn's resistance to winter cold by strengthening the roots of your grass.

Expert advice:

  • Apply Neosol 25-0-3 fertilizer (green package) if you have used two or fewer fertilizers this season. Important: You will need to apply a final fertilizer in October.
  • Apply Neosol 16-0-8 fertilizer (orange package) if you have already applied 25-0-3 fertilizer three times this season. Important: You will not need to apply fertilizer in October.
  • Apply fertilizer evenly, regardless of rain or time of day.

2. Treat weeds

By eliminating competition, it allows your lawn to grow more vigorously.

Expert advice

  • Apply when the outside temperature is below 30 degrees Celsius felt.
  • There should be no watering or rain for 12 hours after applying the product.
  • Apply the herbicide again, 72 hours after the first use if you see that the results are not to your liking in the targeted areas. Do not make more than 2 applications in the month.

3. Repair damaged areas with potting soil and seed

Provides a dense, uniform lawn, reducing spaces for weeds to grow.

Expert advice:

  • Remove weeds before applying potting soil to aid the growth of new seed.
  • Make sure to sow your new lawn 4 days after treating the weeds and not before.

4. Aerate the ground before winter

Improves air circulation and water absorption, promoting healthy growth.

Expert advice

  • Aeration is necessary if you have to force to insert a screwdriver into the ground.
  • We recommend a motorized lawn aerator, which can be rented from small engine rental companies. This tool will save you time compared to aerator shoes.

Look out!

Monitor and treat chinch bugs before winter

If you notice yellow spots, water to check if it is due to drought or bedbugs. Treat with our Safer’s insecticide: Apply the insecticide to the yellow patches as well as 5-6 feet around the patches. There should be no rain or watering for 24 hours after the insect treatment.
